Environment

In the framework of its HSSE policy and in compliance with Moroccan regulations, SOMAPORT has set up an array of measures and instructions for environmental protection and the fight against pollution, in particular with regard to the waste and recovery of liquid leakage from containers.
For waste management SOMAPORT has instituted a management plan defining the rules for collection and delivery.
A distinction is made between inactive or “normal” waste and active or “dangerous” waste generated by ships or the activity of SOMAPORT terminals.

1- Ship generated waste materials:
  •  The companies accredited by ANP (decree n° 2-007-263 of 19 September 2008 taken for application of law 15-02, Art-3) are required to :
  •  Degassing and deballasting of ships.
  •  Cleaning of ships.
  •  Recovery of ship trash (all kinds of refuse)
  •  Collection of garbage on board ships, in particular waste and residue owing to operation.
2- Waste generated by terminal activity:
  •  SOMAPORT has fully fitted out equipment (lifts, small bins, etc.) for sweeping out and collection of any waste materials generated during the handling of merchandise
  •  SOMAPORT also has a mechanical sweeper provided with a sprinkling system used after clearance of large excavation operations carried out by the aforementioned shifts.
  •  A contract has been signed with a specialized operator for placement in the terminals of bins for the storage and discharge of waste materials
3- Liquid waste :

SOMAPORT has signed a contract with the fuel and lubricant supplier for the removal of waste oil resulting from oil change or other operations on the machines, etc.

4- Waste materials resulting from medical care:

These waste materials are collected and discharge to a specialized service.

5- Liquid leakage from containers :

SOMAPORT has in place a system for the recovery of container leaks and management procedure for this type of incident

SOMAPORT has restricted access to its container terminal to light weight vehicles in a bid to reduce the occurrence of accidents
